Rotterdam approach

Rotterdam is characterised by a unique approach by dealing with both the causes and consequences of climate change, improving air quality and reducing noise. This makes Rotterdam an inspiring example to other world port cities.

Integrated approach
Its ambitions and results in the fields of the environment, climate, energy and water contribute to a green, clean, healthy and economically strong city and make Rotterdam the most sustainable world port. Rotterdam attaches great importance to sustainability and can make an important contribution to this. The city, port and municipality are working together with companies, citizens and knowledge institutions in order to achieve this together, focusing on decisiveness, innovation and co-creation.

Programme on Sustainability and Climate Change
A clean, green and healthy city where sustainability contributes to a strong economy.  This is the ambition the Rotterdam Municipal Executive wants to work on with the new Rotterdam Sustainability Programme. Reducing carbon emission by half, preparing for the consequences of climate change, improving air quality and reducing noise are the main topics of the programme. The Municipal Executive will invest 31 million euros in order to achieve the green ambitions.
