The Rotterdam network company Stedin has started construction work on a steam network in the Botlek area. On Wednesday, 15 February, Stedin signed the contracts with AVR - a waste processing company and steam supplier, and with Emerald Kalama Chemical (EKC) - a chemical company and steam consumer. The project will significantly contribute to the Rotterdam climate goal of a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2025.

Amsterdam, the Hague, Rotterdam, and the Rijnmond area are among the selected regions. This index will enable residents to understand air quality quickly and easily without needing to consult an expert.
Read moreIn early February, Air Products and ExxonMobil opened a facility for the production of hydrogen. The integration of the ExxonMobil refinery with the Air Products new hydrogen plant will improve the energy efficiency by over 15% and reduce CO2 emissions by 200,000 tons annually. That is comparable to an annual reduction of 90,000 cars on the road.

A general survey conducted by TNO DuCHA (Dutch Centre for Health Assets) indicates that on average, hospitals can save 12% on their energy consumption. Substantial savings are also possible for the hospitals in our region, especially in the fields of lighting, ventilation, and humidifiers. These results were presented during four Energy Master Classes for hospitals held in 2011. On 8 February 2012, the final master class was held in the Maasstad Hospital, Rotterdam.

Read moreVisser & Smit Hanab, a VolkerWessels company, has won the contract for the design, construction, and maintenance of a unique heating system in the Rotterdam area. Construction of a heating network was an initiative of Warmtebedrijf Rotterdam. The network will allow for the reuse of residual heat that the industry in the port of Rotterdam emits. A pipeline route measuring 26 kilometres will transport the heat to Rotterdam Zuid.
